About a week ago I wrote the poem below. Rosie seemed to go down faster that we thought and coming back from the trip to LA, our wonderful home visit vet came over and helped us determine that she still has some life in her — she is still eating and moving around, has a twinkle still in her eye — although her leg is very painful. Vet said she will kind of let us know — stop eating, stop responding…. so we have a little reprieve.<\/p>\n
Then we found out today that Rosie’s buddy, Skeeter, is gone suddenly too… also cancer. Julie and Michael, now in Colorado, shared the joy of the four dogs: Maggie, Skeeter, Rosie and George —\u00a0 on the land many times.<\/p>\n

Yesterday we learned<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Rosie is dying.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n I have seen the signs for months<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The slightly unfocused eye<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The limp<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n All belied by her eagerness for a walk<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n And when she reverts to puppyhood<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Barking insistently for a biscuit<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Yesterday they said bone cancer<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Common in Goldens<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Heroic measures, amputation, chemo might give her 6 more months<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n We are saying no<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n We will spoil that girl and keep her safe and happy as we can<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Last night I wept into her fur<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n And sat quiet in my chair<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n And thought\u00a0 about all the dogs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Who loved me<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n And whom I have loved<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Dell, Bean, Ruffy, Tess, Freddie and Rosie<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n George, the big lunk, will be here a bit longer<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n God willing<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n April 26, 2013<\/i><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" About a week ago I wrote the poem below.
