CO-VID 19, comment from my hunkered down place 3.14.2020

I am isolating at home, which I actually had been doing since I had a bout with the regular flu, which morphed into bacterial pneumonia. (Too much information for you, probably.)

This time is teaching me a lot about how much we need each other. We never know what is ahead, but this nationwide, worldwide lockdown was certainly not anticipated. I have it easy, but I have a lot of hand-wringing for all those I love and everybody else too!

After Trump’s feeble grasp of the situation and his failure, it is hopeful to see all the rest of the people in charge getting it. I read somewhere that they have taken over, and he is just like a bystander, — but one, of course, who misleads and lies and makes things worse. The governors and mayors have stepped up, as well as all the businesses and sports and cultural groups who have cancelled events with large crowds. I think there is hope that this huge “lock down”  will allow the virus spread to slow, allowing treatment and everything else needed to meet the crisis.

I am grateful for television (!!) the web, the phone, my dogs, and my “housemate/helper” Eduardo, waiting to hear the date and time for his immigration interview for permanent residency.

And now, “from daughter Cully in LA, passing along some dark humor –always seems to help in any situation….

There is a new drink – The Quarantini, like a martini except you drink it at home alone.”

Amy not the only woman protecting Joe.

Jill Biden used her own body to block a protester from getting to her husband (Let’s assume she yelled, “You’ll have to go through me first” for dramatic affect). The determination on her face as she grabbed the protester by her wrists to protect her husband led to suggestions she should become Biden’s VP

Then Simone Sanders swiftly swoops in behind Biden, rushing the second protester and getting her off of the stage with ease. “I broke a nail,” she said.

Don’cha just love these women.

Amy shines through March 4, 2020

I am so proud of Amy, who withdrew at the best time to throw her support to Joe, and deliver Minnesota for him.

So Smart!

NY Times Likes Amy too!! 1.20.2020

Although they hedge their bet — endorsed Warren AND Klobuchar

check out the videos. Warren seems a bit angry to me. Amy is my senator and beloved in Minnesota.

Opinion –  STEVE CHAPMAN Chicago Tribune (reprinted in Star Tribune Jan. 7, 2020)

”  … Anyone who wants four more years of needless bedlam in the White House will vote to keep the clown car. Klobuchar is the Honda Accord of the field: reliable, practical, affordable — and unlikely to drive you into a ditch.”

In case you missed it…. thank you Daily KOS

‘Tis the season! Loved ones are scrambling to complete last-minute shopping, children are singing their little hearts out in school holiday choirs, friends and co-workers are gathering around cheese plates, cookie trays, and the bar for after-work celebrations. It’s the time of year when we put our differences aside and rejoice in the holiday spirit together, right?

Well, it used to be. Now Donald Trump is president. And while he insists that he (and he alone) is responsible for people saying, “Merry Christmas” to one another (nobody ever stopped saying that this time of year), it seems the other messages of Christmas completely escape him. Case in point: his annual holiday card. It’s a time for an American president to send out a traditional greeting to supporters and his fellow public servants, including members of Congress. This year, he included a little something extra.

Thanks for this card & your 6 page impeachment screed. Bizarrely delivered together. Happy Holidays & best wishes for the coming year!

That’s right: Donald Trump included his bonkers six-page screed against his impending impeachment in his Christmas cards. Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy confirmed that he also got the rant, along with, for whatever reason, a second, smaller Christmas card.
Chris Murphy @ChrisMurphyCT

True story: there is a White House staffer going around the Senate delivering to each office, as a package, the incoherent, scathing Pelosi letter AND…wait for it…a giant 16×12 White House Christmas card (along with, implausibly, a second smaller Christmas card).

What a day.

And what is up with those matching signatures? In 2017, handwriting analyst Sheila Kurtz told Yahoo that Melania Trump’s signature has been “stylized” to match her husband’s. Kurtz said, “Maybe they brought someone in to show her how to do it or [it’s] a stamp, but it is definitely stylized.”

Anyway, Merry Impeachmas. Maybe next Christmas we can flood Donald Trump’s White House with bon voyage cards. And then break out the burning sage and the bleach to scrub that entire house clean.

During a speech in Pittsburgh, Trump listed Colorado as one of several states where he wanted to build a wall. “We’re building a wall on the border of New Mexico, and we’re building a wall in Colorado,” he said. “We’re building a beautiful wall, a big one that really works, that you can’t get over, you can’t get under.”

Colorado is hundreds of miles north of the border.

“Well this is awkward,” Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said in a tweet. “Colorado doesn’t border Mexico. Good thing Colorado now offers free full day kindergarten so our kids can learn basic geography.”

Daniel

My heart friend and long time inspiration, Daniel del Castillo, died.

Here is a photo of him, his wife Renae Ask and their dog, Bacchi (hiding from George) at our house in 2011.

Here is a previous post about Daniel.

“Daniel’s Story”

He had a career in The State Department and along with Renae served around the world and in Washington D.C.  He died of lung cancer that progressed rapidly after his diagnosis.
