Luxor Temple under a full moon
Feb. 1, 2011 — many of you looking at this page may know that I have traveled to Egypt twice in the early 2000s — I think it is no coincidence that the events of the past few days are matched to the Goddess Nut’s birthday (Feb. 2) she is the ancient Egyptian goddess who swallowed the sun every night and birthed it in the morning. Here are my recollections complete with mysterious connections.

I took this picture of the solid gold mask of King Tutankahmun in the Antiquities Museum in Cairo - it's a little out of focus, sorry, bad light in there.

Bob, always perusing Barnstormers for airplanes for sale, spotted this 1946 Taylorcraft for sale in New Richmond, just over the border in Wisconsin. The guy said it was a “10” in a scale of 1 – 10 and was a motivated seller. Bob will leave it there for a little while then put it in his hanger at Lake Elmo. He said, “I guess I’m not really ready for the rocking chair yet.”

Taylorcraft - yellow,of course

I liked this shot of Favre on the sidelines with the rookie who took his place still looking up to him. I sure will miss Favre, but it looks like the end now. My new hero is Joe Webb. When everybody was nervous for him he said, "It's just a football game. I've been playing football my whole life." Nice goodbye and hello. Favre was encouraging Webb from the sidelines all through the game.
We visited Bob and Elaine and Sara and her boyfriend Patrick and also Todd, Jill, Chandler and Taylor.

He has been hanging out around our bird feeders along with the squirrels, deer, turkeys and lots of songbirds. We haven’t seen him catch anything yet, but he is our guy. Their range is pretty permanent, so he is the one we have seen all summer. With 21″ of snow on the ground and 6″ more today expected, the birds are loading up.

in this fuzzy picture, you cansee the rust underside
We even had a brave turkey INSIDE the dog fence under the deck feeder.

Here is that suicidal turkey inside the dog fence.

God Bless
Whoever planted two Colorado Blue Spruce
close to the house, but not too close, near to where the feeders are now
shelter for bird’s young all summer,
shelter for puffed cold birds in winter,
shelter for drinking water.
Who planted them so long ago?
They tower far past the roof of this place, once the Nelson farm.
I think the barn was here where we live, the old farmhouse is across the street.
I feel my steps retrace ones from long ago.
I carry food and water for birds,
but I can smell the musty barn,
hear cows moan and heave a sigh, chickens flutter and twitter.
Thank you, tree planter,
thank you, Great Mystery,
thank you, lucky stars that led us to this place.
Bob’s pal Steve traveled to Lake Elmo for a day to help Bob take his covered and painted wings to his hanger and bring back the fuselage to work on over the winter. We made a trip to Uncle Franky’s for authentic Italian beef sandwiches too.

The Lake Elmo Luscombe factory is running every day now as Bob races against time (winter). Although he has a great heating system in the building, his goal is to finish most of the major painting on the wings and swap it out for the fuselage which he can then work on over the winter. I have to say I am much impressed with his work.

The silver coat that deflects UV rays -- he may keep this color for the wings.

Did the crazies take over? or was it just that people are really upset about the state of the economy, jobs, etc. which (by the way) was created by George Bush and company.
Bob and I did our usual due diligence: donated to and campaigned for our local candidates. Plus, we did a little extra to try to defeat Michele Bachmann who spent $70 for every vote she got in our district. The big fundraising she did leaves her with a big war chest. Speculation is that she will run for the Senate against Amy Klobuchar in 2012 — I say go for it since she would never win the whole state — only this odd conservative gerrymandered district that we happen to live in.
Meanwhile Judy and Bob were on national TV — The Ed show on MSNBC – on the Sunday before the election. You can see us in this clip in the background when the camera shows both Ed and Tarryl Clark. I have on new glasses that I am trying to get used to and Bob is drinking a beer….. click on this link to view the clip:

I am in the back looking like Mr. Magoo with white hair. Bob is next to me.
